Internet Cafe Idea

This is just an idea I had for an internet cafe.  I have a facility with a main room for the public workstations, a private (limited access) room for the servers, a break room (because there is no food and/or drinks allowed at the workstations, bathrooms of course, and an office.  Not too complicated is it.

The workstations are diskless with a bare-metal hyper-visor so you have both Linux and Windows running simultaneously.  The VMs run in full-screen mode so it’s not obvious to the user that it’s so easy to switch between the two operating systems.  There are two servers in the back room, each one with a hyper-visor running Linux and Windows and are clustered for backup reasons and so that should one become disabled the user would not be aware of the situation.

It’s just an idea, but it really sounds great doesn’t it?  Anyway, I started thinking that if I had more room for additional offices, for the tenants, they would be able to rent offices that already had computers as part of the furniture, diskless workstations of course.  But then they would have the option of attaching an external hard-drive, for whatever reason, that they were able to keep files on.

Sounds good, I just need to keep my day job until I can afford this.

Somewhere in the Middle

Not much to ‘blog’ about, but it’s going to take some time. I like programming, after all it’s my job, but things are just so amuck in the language world that sometimes I wonder if it’s worth the effort. I keep trying to focus on Java but I can’t seem to get out of the 4D world.

PHP seems like a cool scripting language to learn but I got no brain cells by the time I get home to do any worth while studying. Sometimes, I wish I could just hang out at home and really learn how to program with java and PHP building some of the programs that I’ve thought about and just go-to-town — maybe someday.
